Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization is a phrase that describes the process of improving the quality and amount of traffic to a website. Essentially when you plug in a keyword into a search engine search box, the search engine will display the top ranking pages for the particular keyword in descending order of importance. In other words, the top pages are better optimized for the search engines. This equates to a larger number of visitors and much better traffic.
SEO may have numerous targets depending on the purpose of the search engine in question. It can target industry, local data, images and many other subjects of interest.
If you did a search on search engines you would see that they are all grouped by common topics. Topics such as specific technical and medical matters to topics of general interest.
SEO has become a very important part of any businesses internet marketing strategy. How did this come about? Online business website owners need to ascertain what their potential customers want in terms of information as well as products. When this is determined, search engine optimization of the website follows. The way this is done is through the editing and inclusion of detailed keywords to the page title, meta tags, description, headlines and the page content itself. Indexing of pages is also performed by the search engine. Optimizing each webpage means removing any barriers placed to intentionally block your site from getting indexed by an engine
SEO should also be thought of in terms of a specific technique used to perform seaches in the engines. There are some tactics used by webmasters that the engines condone and other tactics that they do not.
In addition to whether or not the search engines approve or disapprove of specific tactics, search engine ranking in terms of how a specific page is optimized also includes demoting pages with poor design and poor seo levels. Thus, the techniques and the webmasters who use them are divided into two distinct categories1.)White Hat which includes websites with a favorable and friendly design and 2.) Black Hat which employs tactics specifically aimed at trying to trick a search engine into giving a higher than deserved ranking. Proper search engine optimization can change a website from black hat classification to the white hat classification. The way a webmaster goes about SEO can make a big difference when it comes to being place in a white hat or a black hat engine. White hat search engines display consistent search results. The black hat engines have disparity in page rankings and other annoyances due to the unscrupulous and unethical practices used to build and promote the websites.
